Just in time for the holiday season, VeriSign, the main guys responsible for issuing digital certificates have launched a web shopping security guide, targeted to UK consumers.

VeriSign is dedicated to helping you shop smartly, safely and stress-free in the run up to Christmas. Because of the credit crunch, more Britons will be hunting for bargains online this season than ever. In fact, our research shows that 71 percent plan to do so. But there are risks. Phishing, credit card fraud and bogus Web sites are rife and increasingly sophisticated. And consumers are concerned—personal security ranks as the number-one reservation they have to buying online. This site is designed to give you simple, practical information on how to buy and where to buy your gifts—confidently and safely—this Christmas.

There are a number of dandy resources available from this site including an article by Tony Neate about “How to Get Safe Online” and a list of Top UK Shopping Sites. Now granted, this is primarily a promo site for VeriSign Extended Validation (the “Green Bar”) and targeted to British consumers, but the information and resources are spot on and, let’s face it, cyberspace is everywhere. Like Visa. Or lint. So check this out and send the link to your mom. Besides, finding out about VeriSign Extended Validation isn’t such a bad thing either. Even if you have to watch that annoying animation of the guy with the green paint roller.

Check it out.
